Grameen America names JLo as national ambassador
American singer and philanthropist Jennifer Lopez has been made the national ambassador of Grameen America.
As Grameen America's national ambassador, Jennifer Lopez – popularly known as "JLo" – will have several duties including helping the microlending organisation with its mission of empowering 600,000 Latina entrepreneurs across 50 US cities with $14 billion in business capital and six million hours of financial education and training by 2030, according to Hollywood Reporter.
It will also help J.Lo further in her philanthropic project, Limitless Labs. Her project supports Latina-owned small businesses in addition to other work, including youth empowerment, civic engagement and empowering women with the confidence to live limitlessly with a focus on helping those in her hometown of the Bronx, adds Hollywood Reporter.
Founded in 2008 by Nobel Peace Prize recipient Dr Muhammad Yunus, Grameen America is a nonprofit microfinance organisation. It is dedicated for helping women living in poverty build small businesses.
The organisation has served more than 150,000 women in 23 US cities, distributed $2.6 billion in loans and helped create and maintain 157,000 jobs, till today.
